Fixed fares from Batik Air

SUBANG: Batik Air has rolled out its Hari Raya fixed fares for flights to Sabah and Sarawak to ease festive travel.

Transport Minister Anthony Loke said the initiative, launched in collaboration with the government, will see fares capped at RM319 for flights to Sarawak and RM379 for Sabah.

He said the move reflects the airline’s understanding of passengers’ needs during peak travel periods.

“As we approach the joyous festivities of Hari Raya Aidilfitri, travel takes on an even deeper significance.

“It is the bridge that reunites families, brings loved ones home and strengthens the bonds that matter most,” Loke said at the launch of the programme here yesterday.

Also present were Batik Air chief executive officer Datuk Chandran Rama Muthy, Malaysian Aviation Commission executive chairman Datuk Seri Saripuddin Kasim, Civil Aviation Authority of Malaysia chief executive officer Datuk Capt Norazman Mahmud and Malaysia Airports Holdings Bhd chief operating officer Gordon Stewart.

Loke also announced that Batik Air will be increasing flight frequencies by up to 140 to key domestic destinations such as Kota Baru, Alor Star, Penang, Kota Kinabalu, Kuching, Sibu, Sandakan and Tawau.

“These additional flights will provide greater flexibility and convenience, ensuring more Malaysians can return home for the celebrations,” he added.

Loke said government intervention has helped stabilise airfare prices during the festive period, preventing one-way ticket prices from soaring above RM1,000.

“This initiative represents a collaborative effort between the government and airlines, and I welcome their role and contributions,” he said.

For other domestic flights, the government has also set a maximum ticket price of RM499.

Loke said all airlines have increased flights for the festive season, which is a common practice.

“This year, we have more aircraft, more flights.

“For instance, Batik Air now has a total of 51 aircraft, allowing them to increase flight frequencies and optimise operations,” he explained.

To accommodate the expected surge in passengers, Batik Air is also adding more than 22,000 seats during the peak travel period.

Loke emphasised the importance of a smooth and seamless travel experience, praising the efforts of airlines, airport operators and regulatory bodies in maintaining operational efficiency.

He highlighted the aviation industry’s vital role in connecting Malaysians during this meaningful time, acknowledging the dedication of those working behind the scenes.

In addition to air travel, he said Keretapi Tanah Melayu will be adding extra ETS services to the northern region, with additional trips also planned for services to the East Coast.

“Their dedication ensures that every journey – especially during festive seasons – is a smooth and meaningful one,” he added.
