Terengganu and Sabah share spoils in thrilling draw

KUALA LUMPUR: The race for third place in the Super League remains wide open after Terengganu and Sabah played out a 2-2 draw at the Sultan Zainal Abidin Stadium in Kuala Terengganu on Friday (March 7).

Terengganu, currently third in the standings, were closely pursued by Sabah, with a win offering a crucial advantage to either side.

Sabah drew first blood in the 20th minute when Stuart Wilkin broke through for a solo effort to put the visitors ahead.

However, the lead lasted only four minutes as Ismaheel Akinade rose highest to nod in a cross from Akhyar Rashid, leveling the score at 1-1.

Sabah regained their advantage before halftime, with Saddil Ramdani reacting swiftly to convert a pass from Dinesh Rajasingam.

Both teams pressed for goals in the second half but were let down by poor finishing.

Just when Sabah seemed poised to take all three points, Safawi Rasid salvaged a draw for Terengganu in the 84th minute.

His corner kick curled directly into the net, catching Sabah goalkeeper Damien Chien off guard.

Terengganu remains in third place with 36 points, while Sabah trail closely behind with 32 points.
