IGP: 13 police reports lodged over Sin Chew flag error

KUALA LUMPUR: A total of 13 police reports were lodged against Sin Chew Daily over an error of the Jalur Gemilang featured on their front page illustration, says Tan Sri Razarudin Husain.

The Inspector-General of Police said the police were investigating the matter.

“We have received 13 police reports lodged, thus we have commenced with the investigation.

“We are investigating under Section 4(1)(b) of the Printing Presses and Publishing Act 1984,” he said when contacted on Wednesday (April 16).

Earlier, Sin Chew Daily issued an apology in three languages for an error in their front-page illustration.

The apology was made in English, Bahasa Malaysia, and Chinese.

According to a statement from the Chinese daily, the illustration inadvertently omitted the crescent from the Malaysian flag published on Tuesday (April 15).

“This was an unintentional error made during the design process. We have amended the digital version, and the same notice will be published in the print version. We apologise unreservedly to our readers, members of the Malaysian community, and the general public. We regret the error,” it said.
