Flash floods hit several areas in S’gor after early morning downpour, no evacuations reported, says Bomba

SHAH ALAM: Several areas in Selangor were affected by flash floods following heavy rainfall since early Wednesday (April 23) morning.

Selangor Fire and Rescue Department assistant operations director Ahmad Mukhlis Mukhtar said the affected areas were in Sungai Buloh, Petaling Jaya and Subang Jaya.

According to him, 86 homes were impacted, however, no evacuations have been reported.

In Kampung Paya Jaras Hilir, Sungai Buloh, 80 homes were submerged with water levels reaching about 1m, although the water has begun to recede.

He said Fire and Rescue personnel were dispatched to the scene after receiving a distress call at 6.31am.

“The operation commander found that the area was inundated with0.9m of water and about 80 houses were involved.

“However, the water was receding and no evatuations were carried out,” Ahmad Mukhlis said.

In Kampung Baru Sungai Buloh, six homes were inundated with 0.6m, but the affected residents declined to evacuate as water levels were showing a downward trend.

Meanwhile, Ahmad Mukhlis told Bernama that in Persiaran Damai, Kampung Kenangan Subang Jaya, a car was stranded in about 0.6m of water.

He confirmed that no casualties were reported and that water levels have since begun to recede.

Ahmad Mukhlis also told Bernama that a woman in her 50s was rescued by members of the public after floodwaters rose to 1.5m along Jalan PJU 1A/46 in Petaling Jaya.

“A vehicle was also caught in the flood, but the water at the scene has since fully subsided,” he said.
