Apology not enough, admits PAS after own Jalur Gemilang gaffe
PETALING JAYA: PAS agrees that an apology alone is insufficient without concrete action on Jalur Gemilang gaffes as it would be seen as normalising the issue.
“The party welcomes internal action by affected parties and supports the action taken by the authorities in a fair and firm manner to ensure no repetition of negligence and error.
“As citizens of the country, PAS believes everyone should consistently show respect and take great pride in the nation’s symbols, reflecting our nationalism and patriotism,” said party secretary-general Datuk Seri Takiyuddin Hassan in a statement on Friday (May 16).
Terengganu PAS courted controversy for depicting only 11-pointed yellow star and 12 red–and white stripes on Jalur Gemilang.
He said the party shares the sentiments and calls by various parties for investigation and stern action on anyone who fails to show respect to the country’s symbols, including the Jalur Gemilang.
“This is because of the frequency of such incidents lately not only involving individuals but also media organisations, political bodies including ministries themselves,” said Takiyuddin.
The Jalur Gemilang should have a 14-pointed star with 14 red-and-white stripes, symbolising the 13 states in the federation plus the federal territories.
