Penang assembly sitting opened by new Governor Ramli Ngah Talib

GEORGE TOWN: Newly-appointed Penang Yang di-Pertua Negeri Tun Ramli Ngah Talib has officially opened the state legislative assembly sitting at Lebuh Light on Friday (May 16).

The ceremony was attended by various state leaders, including Penang Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow and Speaker Datuk Seri Law Choo Kiang.

It began with an inspection of the guard of honour, followed by the singing of the national and state anthems.

A speech and a group photo session were also held.

A section of the road was closed to facilitate the ceremony from 8am to 11am on Friday.

Tun Ramli, who previously served as the Speaker of the Dewan Rakyat, was appointed as the ninth Yang di-Pertua Negeri of Penang, effective May 1.

The upcoming state assembly sitting, expected to last two weeks, will see assemblymen from various parties convening to debate, pass motions, and approve budgets aimed at the state’s development.
