PKR polls: I did not bring any ‘cai’, says Anwar

PETALING JAYA: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim stressed that he did not bring any ‘cai’ (list of candidates) into the PKR election process, but rather examined each candidate in detail before making a decision.

Anwar, who is also PKR president, said the process was time-consuming because he wanted to ensure that the selection was made based on merit and not the influence of certain parties.

“I hope that in the decision, both are taken into account. I think that is the best,” Sinar Harian quoted him as saying at a press conference on Friday (May 23).

Anwar, who was there with PKR advisory council chairman Datuk Seri Wan Azizah Ismail, had earlier fulfilled his responsibilities as a party member by voting in the party polls.

Anwar said he is optimistic that PKR deputy president Datuk Seri Rafizi Ramli will attend the PKR national congress at the Persada Johor International Convention Centre tonight.

“He didn’t inform me, but as deputy president I assume he would come as he always comes to party programmes.

“He attends Cabinet meetings, carries our his work well as usual, presenting and reviewing papers,” added Anwar.
