Malaysian Army probes viral image of uniformed member displayed at entertainment outlet

KUALA LUMPUR: The Malaysian Army is investigating a viral photo involving one of its personnel that was displayed at an entertainment venue on Monday.

The Public Relations Cell of the Army Headquarters said that they are aware of a viral image, which had gone viral on TikTok, showing a man in military uniform with the Royal Engineers Regiment (RAJD) logo in the background at the venue, reported Sinar Harian.

“The Army takes this matter seriously, and the involved member is being investigated by the Special Investigation Branch,” it said in a statement on Wednesday.

It added that the probe will focus on how the incident occurred and identify if there is any potential security breach either against the member or the Army.

“In addition, the investigation will also seek to determine if there is involvement of other subversive elements in the incident.

“If found guilty, the member may face disciplinary action according to existing regulations for violating military ethics and tarnishing the Army’s reputation,” it said.

The statement also noted that the Army will enhance monitoring of social media usage to prevent such incidents from occurring.

“Although the display was personal, the image of a military member in an inappropriate place and for an immoral purpose can invite negative perceptions and tarnish the Army’s reputation,” it added.
