Mariah Carey Teases New Details About Upcoming 16th Album, How Being a Mother Reflects In Music

Mariah Carey and Ciara step out to celebrate ten years of Apple Music!

The two singers were among several entertainers taking part in the celebration and a global live Apple Music Radio broadcast with Zane Lowe and Ebro Darden.

Also in attendance was Chance the Rapper.

During the broadcast, Mariah revealed lyrics from her upcoming album, teased new details about what to expect, including amount of songs and if there are classic Mariah ballads, and even how motherhood is reflected in her new music.

“Definitely when the album is released, there’s a lot of who I am today, and the last 10 years, the last 14 years [in it]— It’s an interesting situation when you have kids, and it’s a whole ‘nother paint job. It’s a whole different thing,” Mariah dished about how being a mom plays into new music.

After releasing her latest single, “Type Dangerous,” Zane Lowe noted “we’re hungry for more.”

“I’m trying not to tell too much about the new album. ‘It’s a special occasion’—Mimi’s Emancipation.’ It’s a lyric from one of my songs,” she revealed. “What is next? the album coming out. I don’t wanna tell too much about it because I just don’t want to reveal the whole thing. It’s finished.”

How many tracks are there? Mariah shared, “11 songs, or 12,” and she confirmed, “We got some Mariah ballads.”

She also revealed “a second single is coming soon. I’m very excited about it. It’s very summer-y. I like the beat as well.”
