Four hurt in school van-lorry collision
JOHOR BARU: Three children and a school van driver were injured when their vehicle was involved in an accident in a trailer lorry near the Bandar Dato’ Onn exit, southbound on the PLUS Highway here on Monday (July 7).
Fire and Rescue Department operations commander Muhamad Azizi Zakaria said in a statement that the 32-year-old lorry driver and 19 other children in the van were reported to be safe.
He said the department received an emergency call at about 1.10pm and sent a team to the scene.
“Upon arrival, the team found that there were 24 victims involved, with a male student and two female students injured. Also injured was the 45-year-old woman van driver,” he said.
Tebrau fire and rescue station chief Muhamad Syahhir Ikhwan Mohamad Sh’oib added that 10 firemen and two fire engines were involved.
The trapped victims were extricated from the wreckage with special equipment and the injured were sent to Hospital Sultan Ismail for treatment, he added.
