Thunderstorm warning issued for six states, KL and Putrajaya
KUALA LUMPUR: Thunderstorms, heavy rain, and strong winds are expected across various regions in Malaysia, said the Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia) in a post on its social media pages on Tuesday (July 8).
MetMalaysia added that warnings were in effect until 10am on Tuesday.
In Perlis, the entire state is on alert for severe weather.
Kedah areas including Langkawi, Kubang Pasu, Kota Setar, Pokok Sena, Yan, Pendang, Kuala Muda, Kulim, and Bandar Baharu are expected to be affected.
Pulau Pinang is also included in the warning.
In Perak, districts such as Kerian, Larut, Matang Dan Selama, Manjung, Hilir Perak, Batang Padang, and Muallim are forecasted to experience adverse conditions.
Selangor regions including Sabak Bernam, Kuala Selangor, Hulu Selangor, Klang, Gombak, Petaling, Kuala Langat, and Sepang are on alert, as well as Kuala Lumpur and Putrajaya.
In Sarawak, areas such as Kuching, Serian, Samarahan, and Sri Aman (Sri Aman) are expected to face severe weather.
MetMalaysia issues these whis warnings when thunderstorms with rainfall intensity exceeding 20mm per hour are imminent or expected to last more than an hour.
These are short-term warnings, valid for no more than six hours from issuance.
