Family of student who fell to death from Sentul condo want cops to continue investigations

KLANG: The family of 20-year-old Tavanes Vary Mohan, who fell to her death from the sixth floor of a condominium in Sentul on July 2, want the police to continue probing her death.

Tavanes’ father Mohan Perumal, 45, and mother A. Laletha, 43, said they want the police to continue investigating her death as they claim it was still shrouded in mystery.

Earlier, Sentul OCPD Asst Comm Ahmad Sukarno Mohd Zahari was quoted as saying that investigations so far had indicated no foul play in Tavanes’ death.

“Tavanes wanted a grand birthday celebration and told me and her mother to organise something in Kuala Lumpur instead of our hometown in Bahau (Negri Sembilan) as all her friends were there,” Mohan said.

He added that Tavanes had been pursuing a diploma in policing and criminal investigation at a local institution and was living in a sixth-floor unit of the condominium, which was rented by the college as a hostel for its students.

She was found at the bottom of the condominium in the wee hours of the morning by another resident who alerted the authorities.

“My daughter was a brave girl and would confront problems head-on and was not a coward. She was also happy-go-lucky and much loved by her family.

“Tavanes was very close to her mother and would confide everything to Laletha. She had no reason to kill herself,” said Mohan, who owns a transportation business.

Hence, the aggrieved parents strongly believe that the police must reinvestigate their daughter’s case from various “other angles”.

“We want justice for our daughter and for that, there has to be more in-depth investigations,” said Mohan, adding that he and his wife have engaged lawyer M. Manoharan to help them with the matter.

When contacted, Manoharan said the police must dig deeper into the case to establish what had led to Tavanes’ death.

He said the institution where Tavanes had studied must also be held responsible for what had happened.

“We are going to take action against the college for negligence and being vicariously liable for Tavanes’ death,” Manoharan said.

He also urged the Attorney General’s Chambers to consider initiating an inquest into Tavanes’ death to probe deeper into what may have happened.

Meanwhile, when contacted Friday (July 11), ACP Ahmad Sukarno said investigations were still ongoing and the police were gathering more information in regard to Thavanes’ death.
