Young People In China Are Throwing Parties To Celebrate Their Divorces
Stephanie Chan2025-07-12T23:05:15+08:00Does divorce always have to be a sad thing? Apparently not, especially for these couples in China.
An increasing number of young people have taken to Chinese social media to share videos and photos of what they call their “divorce ceremony” or “divorce party”.
The complete opposite of a wedding, freshly-divorced individuals now throw bashes to celebrate the end of their marriage. Think dark outfits and ring-removal ceremonies to mark the date.

The event venues are sometimes adorned with banners that include the phrases “no fate”, “escaping the deep end”, and “welcome to single-hood”.
For women, the cheeky phrase “stay away from trash men” are also written on cakes, while men have put up signs that say: “Hope the next one will be better-behaved.” We suppose dissing the ex is part of the process?
Instead of treating divorce as a failure, these young people are choosing to see it as “leveling up” before they return to the dating pool.
Many netizens were tickled by the idea, with some saying they should have done it during their own divorce.
While some found the event “miserable”, others said a divorce is still considered a milestone in life, and throwing a party can serve as a healthy and mature way to heal and get closure.
Our favourite comment? “So can guests ask for refunds on their wedding ang pows?”
