Hong Kong screen legend Maggie Cheung is typically known to avoid the noise of social media.
Well, not anymore.
The 60-year-old star, who usually keeps a low profile and last appeared on the silver screen in 2013, has officially joined Xiaohongshu.
In her first video posted on Aug 8, a fresh-faced Maggie strolls along a tree-lined path, and shares why she’s joined Xiaohongshu.
“A lot of things don’t need an answer. Timing is very personal. When you feel it is the right time, then it is the right time,” she says cryptically.
Her video has since blown up and Maggie has amassed over 800k followers so far in just a few days.
While her fans were ecstatic to see her online and flooded the comments section, a number of trolls left scathing remarks as well.
“Wow! She looks old. Did she let herself go?” read a comment.
It seems Maggie isn’t bothered by the negativity, and even wrote a comment to her supporters.
“Welcome to my garden. Thank you for your love and support. On the very first day, I have already met so many friends. I personally edited the video for my debut post. Your comments have made me so happy, encouraging me to keep sharing all kinds of things from my garden with you,” she wrote.
To hint at what type of content her fans can expect, Maggie then uses 25 adjectives such as “new”, “fun”, “useful”, “beautiful”, and “interesting”, pairing each with a different outfit.
Her looks ranged from streetwear to relaxed vacation looks, mixing everyday basics with luxury accessories from Tiffany & Co., Cartier, Balenciaga, and Chanel.
We wonder if her surprise move is also a hint at an upcoming film project.
