Young People In China Are Posting ‘Dating Résumés’ On Xiaohongshu To Find Love

Move aside, Tinder.

Many of us would have heard of Xiaohongshu (aka RedNote), where you’ll find posts about almost everything on the Chinese social media app, including tips on what to buy, how to dress, and where to go.

And now, it seems you can find love on Xiaohongshu too.

Yes, it appears young people in China have found one more use for the platform of late.

Instead of turning to dating apps like Tinder and Bumble, singles in China are posting dating résumés on the site in hopes that their qualities (and qualifications) will catch the eye of a suitor. Most are in their 20s, and are already working adults.

These posts range from brief to super detailed, with some even including personal information such as their age, height, education background, jobs, and hobbies. There are even some that include MBTI personality types, headshots, as well as full-on essays on their dating experience.

Following that is usually a requirement criteria, in which they list the traits their potential partner ideally meets, like minimum height, wage, as well as daily habits.

One such dating post reads: “I’m easy-going, easy to get along with, and will not throw tantrums for no reason. Every now and then, I enjoy shopping and having fun with my friends, but most of the time, I’m at home watching dramas. I exercise regularly and play sports such as badminton and tennis, and also go diving during the holidays. My parents are cheerful, and my family is also harmonious with an uncomplicated social circle.”

While traditional matchmaking is still quite common in China, with parents gathering in parks to trade flyers containing their kids’ details in hopes of finding them a match, posting one’s dating résumé on Xiaohongshu might even be more convenient, efficient, and modern.

We wouldn’t even say it’s low-effort, just because of how well put-together some of these profiles look. It’s basically like looking for a partner, but treating the process like a job application.

LinkedIn, but make it… romance?

They’re super transparent with their intentions

Accepts… cheating? There’s something for everyone we suppose

Some posts are super detailed too
