Sarawak cops nab two, seize RM1.2mil in drugs and assets
KUCHING: Sarawak police have arrested two men and seized 20.6kg of methamphetamine worth RM783,218 in two raids in Serian and Kuching.
Sarawak Police Commissioner Datuk Mohamad Zainal Abdullah said in the first raid at about 2.45pm on Thursday (Sept 24), an 18-year-old suspect was arrested by the roadside at KM1 ICQS, Jalan Tebedu-Serian, along with the drugs.
Comm Zainal said that in a follow-up operation, police arrested another suspect, aged 63, at 5.50pm the next day at an apartment in Jalan Tun Jugah here.
They seized various assets, including cash, jewellery, luxury watches and a car, worth a total of RM448,272.71.
“The total value of the drug seizure and asset confiscation is estimated at RM1.23mil, with the drugs seized sufficient for more than 103,000 addicts,” he told the media here on Monday (Sept 29).
“The syndicate responsible is believed to have been active since early last year … sourcing supplies from Peninsular Malaysia and smuggling them into Sarawak.
“The syndicate also offered a payment of RM5,000 as delivery fees.”
Comm Zainal said the first suspect tested negative for drugs, while the second tested positive and also has a criminal record.
“Both suspects have been remanded under Section 117 of the Criminal Procedure Code for seven days – until Thursday (Oct 2) for the first suspect, and Friday (Oct 3) for the second,” he said.
The case is being investigated under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952. – Bernama
