Mother of murdered teen overwhelmed by public support

PETALING JAYA: The mother of the late Yap Shing Xuen has expressed her gratitude for the overflowing love and support her family has received following the brutal murder of her daughter on Oct 14.

Wong Lee Ping said she was deeply moved by the public support shown, which she describes as a beacon of light in their darkest hour.

“In this time of unimaginable sorrow, our hearts are filled with both grief and gratitude.

“But we are truly touched and humbled by the outpouring of love, support, and presence from all of you during this painful period.

“Your care has been a light in our darkest days,” she expressed in a touching post shared on Facebook on Monday (Oct 20).

Wong also shared an AI-generated video of Yap smiling and waving goodbye after her final farewell funeral ceremony was completed on Monday.

Wong extended special appreciation to His Majesty Sultan Ibrahim, King of Malaysia, and Her Majesty Raja Zarith Sofiah, Queen of Malaysia, as well as MPs for their support.

She also thanked members of all communities, regardless of race and backgrounds, who came to comfort them and stand by her family in honour of the memory of her 16-year old daughter.

“Every gesture, big or small, will forever be remembered by our family.

“Your support gave us strength, your presence brought comfort, and your prayers helped us carry on.

“So from the depths of our hearts – thank you,” she said in her post’s conclusion.

Yap was murdered at about 9.30am on Oct 14 at SMK Bandar Utama 4 in Petaling Jaya, when she was allegedly stabbed by a 14-year-old boy in a toilet.

During a later press conference, Wong revealed that her daughter had suffered more than 200 stab wounds and had died as a result.

Following the brutal murder, police have since arrested the suspect who will be remanded until Oct 28 to assist in investigations.

Following a post-mortem examination, police said the pathology report is currently expected to be completed within a month.
