Sabah allocation increased to RM17bil for 2025–2026, says Anwar

PETALING JAYA: The Madani government has increased Sabah’s allocation to RM17bil for 2025 and 2026, says Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.

The Prime Minister said Federal spending for Sabah has continued to rise, covering state grants, agency operating costs, fuel subsidies and development.

“The Madani government has increased allocations for Sabah to RM17bil for 2025 and 2026,” he said on Wednesday (Oct 22).

“The amount exceeds Sabah’s total revenue in 2022, 2023 and 2024, which averaged around RM10bil a year,” he added.

He spoke during a ministerial briefing on the special grant for Sabah in the Dewan Rakyat on Wednesday (Oct 22).

The briefing followed the Kota Kinabalu High Court ruling on Friday that the Federal Government acted illegally by failing to honour Sabah’s 40% revenue entitlement for decades.

The court ordered Putrajaya to conduct a joint review with the Sabah government on the matter.

The review must reach an agreement on Sabah’s right to 40% of Federal revenue collected from the state for each financial year from 1974 to 2021.

The review must start within 90 days and be completed within 180 days.
