Emotional Win Turns Comical As Bob Lam Breaks Best Male Host Trophy At TVB Anniversary Awards

Hong Kong television and radio host Bob Lam, 46, won his first-ever Best Male Host award at the TVB Anniversary Awards last night (Jan 4), more than 20 years after making his showbiz debut — and the moment was nothing short of memorable.

He was visibly moved as he took to the stage and, true to his candid personality, Bob delivered a humorously self-deprecating yet heartfelt speech.

He wrapped things up with an enthusiastic “thank you” to the audience, before dramatically slamming his trophy onto the podium.

That was when things took an unexpected — and hilarious — turn.

As Bob attempted to lift his award, he suddenly froze, staring at the snapped-off base in disbelief.

Presenter Wong Cho Lam quickly rushed over to help him piece the trophy back together, but to no avail. The comical scene ended with Bob leaving the stage holding the two parts of his award together.

Guess the gods of entertainment were really shining down on him.

During his speech, Bob opened up about the challenges he faced in his showbiz journey.

He revealed that he had endured years of harsh criticism and insults, with some even telling him to “just quit already”.

Instead of letting the negativity break him, he used it as motivation, reminding himself not to be swayed by external voices.

He shared that in recent years, criticism has gradually given way to praise, and he thanked TVB and producers for giving him the opportunity to prove that despite being “not good-looking, not having much hair, and having a very loud voice,” he is still a professional host.

Getting emotional, Bob acknowledged that, like many of his peers still striving in the industry, he understands how arduous the path in showbiz can be.

He encouraged others not to let malice or rejection hold them back, saying: “As long as you keep persisting and moving forward, beautiful things will definitely happen to you in the future.”
