Long-standing rumours about Hong Kong stars Louis Koo and Jessica Hsuan, both 55, are back in the spotlight after a fan’s remark about their alleged off-screen romance set social media buzzing.
The claim was made by a netizen’s mother, who is in her 70s, after watching Back To The Past. Her mum’s remark on the newly released film sequel to beloved 2001 TVB drama A Step into the Past, starring Louis and Jessica, quickly sparked discussion online and prompted playful responses from both stars.
According to the post, the mother first remarked that the lead actors had visibly aged, before dropping a bombshell: “Louis Koo and Jessica Hsuan dated for many years, but they never admitted it.”
This left the netizen puzzled, who exclaimed in surprise: “How do you know?!”
The unexpected revelation quickly gained traction online and even prompted responses from the stars themselves.
Jessica was first to react, replying with a laughing-while-crying emoji.
Louis soon followed up, addressing the speculation in a playful tone.
“Auntie, don’t wrong us,” he wrote. “After watching the Easter egg [at the end of the film], you should give your mum a Kinder Surprise egg.”
His humorous response delighted netizens, many of whom teased the actor for breaking his usual silence on relationship rumours.
“You’ve never responded to relationship rumours all these years, why are you clarifying this time?” one commenter joked.
Another quipped: “Mr Koo, are you Sam Hui?”, a Cantonese pun implying he might be feeling guilty.
Others joined in to praise the netizen’s mother, joking that older people often have the sharpest powers of observation.
Louis and Jessica have been close friends for more than two decades and have starred together in numerous dramas over the years.
While they have long been the subject of dating rumours, both have consistently denied being in a relationship.
