Aarif Rahman Tried Intermittent Fasting to Get in Shape

While the world is staying at home to protect themselves from the COVID-19 outbreak, Aarif Rahman (李治廷) is using this opportunity of me-time to get in shape.

Earlier this week, the 33-year-old singer-actor shared a pictorial he took for the magazine Men’s Health China, showing off his newly trimmed body. Aarif, who is known for his songwriting talent, shocked many fans with his new body.

But his “new body” was years in the making. Aside from developing a habit of daily exercise, Aarif has also credited intermittent fasting as a contributor to his weight loss. Intermittent fasting is a form of time-restricted eating in which one abstains from eating for a certain amount of hours in the day. Aarif chose the “18/6” method.

“You restrict eating to a 6-hour window,” explained Aarif. “You don’t eat anything for 18 hours, and then you use the next 6 hours to consume an appropriate amount of food.”

There is scientific evidence suggesting that intermittent fasting has health benefits, such as lowering the risk of obesity and reduce blood pressure. It is a healthy strategy towards weight loss and muscle gain.

“Consume foods that are low in salt and oil,” said Aarif. “Eat more meat and vegetables, and drink lots of water! You have to eat a bit of everything, and that includes foods with fat and carbs. As for fruits, I recommend avocados and bananas. (But isn’t good food hard to resist?) Muscles are even harder to resist,” Aarif said with a laugh. “Dieting isn’t hard for me.”

Aarif depleted his water intake two days prior to doing the shoot in order to have his muscles look larger and full. “I had to warn my staff that I might get emotionally unstable,” Aarif said with a laugh.

To maintain his fitness, The Empress of China <武則天> actor follows a strict workout schedule everyday. “I jog for an hour every morning. I make sure that my heart rate stays stable so I don’t lose muscle. I think do resistance training for about two hours. I jog for another hour in the evening.”

Aarif has recently appeared in the Chinese film Special Couple <合法伴侶> and stars in the TV drama Ivy Monsters <藤科動物也凶猛>.
