HK Star Kenny Bee’s Wife Stayed By His Side Even After He Filed For Bankruptcy

Behind every great man, there is a great woman. Sometimes, these great woman aren’t known for performing grand sweeping gestures. Instead, it’s for something as simple as staying by their loved one’s side.

Hong Kong star Kenny Bee (钟镇涛) or fondly known as Ah Bee (啊B), went through a brutal breakup and later, was faced with bankruptcy. During that time, he met his second wife, Fan-jiang Su-zhen (范姜素贞) who stuck with him through thick and thin. Recently, Bee revealed their love story for the very first time through a public love letter.

Bee was a member of the 1970s pop group Wynners, who later married actress and tabloid magnet Teresa Cheung (张德兰) in 1988. However, in 1999, Bee divorced Cheung after discovering she was having an affair with billionaire businessman Edmund Chan. In 2002, Bee had to file for bankruptcy due to debts amounting to an estimated HKD$250 million. It was then that he met his now-wife.

Fan-jiang was 25 years old when she met Bee. She had just returned from studying in France. “She stayed wholeheartedly by my side without asking for anything in return, and helped me with a willing attitude,” Bee recalled. “In addition to my life and work arrangements, she also helped in looking after my two children then.” His two kids were from his previous marriage with Cheung.

Bee could not understand why Fan-jiang wanted to be with him. She was young and pretty, there would have been no shortage of suitors for her. “Why are you following me?” he asked. “I don’t believe that “pretty boys” can control everything,” he joked. Yet, she stayed and they finally got married in 2014. Bee explained the wedding was to give his long-time partner the official status as his wife. They are expected to have another celebration in 10 years. Bee also had two daughters by her.

Although Bee was very proud of his wife, he rarely showed her off on Weibo. That changed when Hunan TV (湖南卫视) invited Fan-jiang to appear on “Mom, You Are So Beautiful (妈妈, 你真好看)”. Initially, the station had invited Bee and his daughter for a reality show. On the eve of the filming however, the invitation was changed to Fan-jiang. This worried Bee and they felt it was a big challenge for them. After careful consideration, Bee finally encouraged her to participate.

Netizens were amazed by the devotion the two showed each other. “(Fan-jiang) really helped (Kenny Bee) during difficulties in his life. She is indispensable and must be cherished,” one commented. “(Kenny Bee) is so blessed,” someone else said.
