Granger and Amber Smith are opening up about having more kids after the death of their son River.

Last week, the 41-year-old country singer and his wife announced the birth of their son Maverick, who was born over two years after their 3-year-old son River tragically died in a drowning accident in June 2019.

In a new YouTube video, Amber admitted that she felt like getting pregnant after River‘s death felt like a “betrayal.”

“After the accident, Granger said, ‘Do you think you would ever want to have another baby?’” Amber recalled. “‘No,’ I said. ‘Absolutely not. I can’t. No way.’”

She added, “River was our caboose. He was our last. I couldn’t do that. I felt almost guilty, like it would be some sort of a betrayal to River.”

Amber went on to say that she wasn’t sure if she could even have more kids, since she got her her fallopian tubes tied after having River.

Granger then explained that he brought up the idea of IVF to Amber.

“She started getting emotional,” Granger recounted. “She said, ‘But I don’t think I can consider IVF because who would we be to play God? How could two humans through a lab fertilize an egg and play God?’”

“Man, it hit me like a ton of bricks and I just started balling,” Granger added. “I looked at her and I said, ‘God makes all the babies, but sometimes man needs to plant the seeds.’”

The couple started IVF in June 2020, and by July, Amber was pregnant.

Along with MaverickGranger and Amber are also parents to son Lincoln, 7, and daughter London, 9.
