Before Marrying Ex-husband, Gillian Chung Felt Very Uncertain

After a lavish wedding, Gillian Chung (鍾欣潼) and Taiwanese doctor Michael Lai (賴弘國) divorced in 2020 to the surprise of many. He has since remarried for the third time and become a new father. Gillian has not embarked on a new relationship, but her love life is heavily monitored by the public.

In a recent talk show, Gillian and Charlene Choi (蔡卓妍) spoke about the topic of marriage and children. Gillian shared, “As everyone knows, I am divorced.” Before wedding Michael Lai, Gillian had pangs of uncertainty and felt “very conflicted” She mused, “I should have followed my heart which was telling me not too but I didn’t listen.”

While Gillian does not regret getting a divorce, she wants to be a mother. “When I was in my 20s, I thought about what would happen if I had children? Will I affect Twins? I never made that choice, and now it’s too late.”

Charlene is also no stranger to marriage, as she was once secretly married to Ronald Cheng (鄭中基). She disclosed that she had previously had her life planned out to an exact science. She had wanted to to focus on her career between 20 to 30, and then build her family from 30 to 40. Then from 40 to 50, she would become a mother.

Although Charlene is about to turn 40, her life has not gone according to plan. If she does not have children in the next few years, she would likely not have them at all. However, she does not want to give up on her career and does not know whether she will be able to handle both her career and family life.
