State polls: Selangor public holiday on Aug 14 if PH-BN wins, says caretaker MB
PETALING JAYA: Selangor folk will enjoy a public holiday on Monday (Aug 14) if Pakatan Harapan and Barisan Nasional win in the Aug 12 state polls.
Caretaker mentri besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari (pic) made the announcement during a televised address on Friday (Aug 11).
In his speech, he urged voters to fulfil their civic duty by casting their ballot and to ensure the victory of Pakatan-Barisan.
“Choose the coalition that has a proven record in managing the state instead of one that aims to sow discord and cause instability.
“Vote wisely and not with emotions and anger. This is not a zero-sum game, the future of Selangor is at stake,” he said.
In the address at 11am, Amirudin also unveiled five pledges which his government aimed to fulfil within 100 days of taking office.
They included RM1,000 in aid for women to cover childcare costs and a waiver of assessment tax for low-cost homes and villages.
Amirudin also announced vouchers valued at RM200 for 1,000 tertiary education students and an allowance increase for imams and bilal at mosques and surau.
“There will also be a RM1,000 incentive which will benefit 500 farmers and fishermen throughout Selangor,” he added.
On Saturday, Amirudin will be defending the Sungai Tua seat in a three-cornered fight, to seek his fourth term as an assemblyman there.
