Terengganu to use federal’s National Day logo and theme, says MB

PETALING JAYA: The Terengganu government will be using the National Day logo and theme of the Federal Government and not the one suggested by Perikatan Nasional Youth, says Datuk Seri Ahmad Samsuri Mokhtar.

In a text to The Star today (Aug 20), the Terengganu Mentri Besar said as the head of the state government, he had decided to maintain the logo and theme of “Malaysia Madani: Tekad Perpaduan Penuhi Harapan” (Malaysia Madani: The Commitment of Unity Fulfills Hope).

He said he would not be using the one unveiled by Perikatan Youth yesterday (Aug 19).

“For us in Terengganu, we will be using the same logo as the Federal (Government),” said Ahmad Sanusi.

He also said the state National Day celebration is decided by the state mentri besar or chief minister and the excos, not by the Federal Government in Putrajaya.

He did not elaborate why Terengganu, under the Perikatan rule, has decided to go with the federal logo.

Perlis, which is also under the Perikatan rule, stated it is awaiting the coalition’s top leaders’ decision on which logo to use.

Earlier, Perlis Mentri Besar Mohd Shukri Ramli said that he has no problems with the federal logo but declined the “Malaysia Madani” phrase in the theme.

Yesterday, Perikatan Youth launched its own National Day logo and theme as it believes that the federal logo is not inclusive enough.

It suggested the four Perikatan states – Kelantan, Terengganu, Kedah and Perlis – use the alternative logo and theme for state celebrations.

PAS president Tan Sri Abdul Hadi Awang had said that the Madani concept in the logo and theme of the National Day campaign by the unity government under Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim did not explain which “Madani” it is.

He said there were many parties manning Putrajaya with “different ideologies”.

Perikatan Youth information chief and PAS Youth head Ahmad Fadhli Shaari has come under fire from ministers for his proposal.

Communications and Digital Minister Fahmi Fadzil had called for an investigation into the different logo and theme, calling it divisive.

Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi regarded the suggestion of an alternative logo as akin to politicising and the work of “a mad man”.
