Christopher Nolan Apologized To Florence Pugh Over The Size of Her Role in ‘Oppenheimer’

Florence Pugh might not have had a large part in Oppenheimer, but it certainly made an impact.

The 27-year-old actress stars as Jean Tatlock in the movie, who was once upon a time romantic partner for J. Robert Oppenheimer.

Florence isn’t on the big screen long, and it’s something that director Christopher Nolan was apologizing to her about.

In a newly released clip from a press interview with MTV UK, Florence opened up about his apology and why he felt the need to do it.

“I didn’t really know what was going on or what it was that was being made,” she says. “Except I knew that Chris really, really wanted me to know that it wasn’t a very big role, and he understands if I don’t want to come near it.”

Florence then said that the size of the role didn’t matter at all.

“‘Even if I’m a coffee maker at a cafe in the back of the room, let’s do it,’” she recalled telling him.

Florence went on, “I remember [Nolan] apologized by the size of the role. I was like, ‘Please don’t apologize.’ And then he said, ‘We’ll send you the script, and honestly, you just read it and decide if it’s like…I completely understand the sizing thing.’ And I remember that evening when I got the script being like, ‘I don’t need to…I know I’m going to do it.’”

Florence and Cillian Murphy share a highly controversial scene in the movie.
