AirAsia CEO Riad Asmat resigns after helming post for six years

KUALA LUMPUR: Riad Asmat has resigned as AirAsia’s chief executive officer (CEO).

In a post on his Instagram account, Riad thanked AirAsia for the journey.

“It has been a journey and a half and I loved every single bit of it with no regrets. To my wonderful AllStars, thank you for the undying support given throughout the good and bad times when you allowed me to be your leader here.

“I will forever be grateful and will never forget this for as long as I live. Your kindness will never be forgotten.

“It was truly an honour to have been given the opportunity to work with each and everyone one of you throughout these years.

“I will continue to pray for you all to have continued success, to always be safe, healthy and to be the true AllStars that this organisation is privileged to have,” he said in his post on Saturday (Dec 30).

Riad said he was taking a break before transitioning to a possible advisory role for AirAsia.

“As I take a bit of a break and transition into a possible advisory role for this organisation, please take good care of yourselves and stay safe always. I do not believe in goodbyes as it is more of a ‘see you around’ thing for me,” he said.

Riad was appointed as the CEO of AirAsia Malaysia in Jan 2018.
