Malaysian Deputy Speaker Confuses The Word ‘Swifties’ With ‘Striptease’ During Parliament
You need to calm down, sir.
You need to calm down, sir.
It seems the debate over American popstar Taylor Swift’s six exclusive nights in Singapore is still having a stranglehold over our neighbour up north.
During a Parliament sitting in Malaysia on Wednesday (Mar 13), ministers debated over why their country did not manage to host the singer’s Eras Tour shows while she was in the region.
As the debate unfolded, things took a hilarious turn when Communications Minister Fahmi Fadzil was wrapping up his speech.
Saying he wasn’t a ‘Swiftie’ but considers himself a ‘SitiZoner’– referring to what fans of Malaysian singer Siti Nurhaliza call themselves, the Minister was suddenly interrupted by Deputy Speaker Datuk Ramli Mohd Nor.
“Minister, striptease?!” asked a visibly stunned Ramli, to which Fahmi quickly clarified, “No, it’s ‘Swiftie’, Taylor Swift.”
The room erupted in a seemingly nervous laughter with the Deputy Speaker looking relieved.
Did he suddenly have Blank Space-out while listening to his colleague speak?

Netizens had a laugh at the banter between the politicians.
“Now we know what these people are thinking all day,” wrote a user.
Another noticed the Deputy Speaker horrified expression for a split second and said, “He must have thought, am I supposed to give a ruling on that?”
“Sir, it is Ramadan now, what is going through your mind?” asked a concerned netizen.
