Skeletal remains found at abandoned teachers’ quarters in Membakut
KOTA KINABALU: The skeletal remains of an individual found inside a room at an abandoned teachers’ quarters in Membakut on Wednesday morning (April 17).
A white wire was also found hanging from the ceiling fan, and a plastic chair that had fallen to the side was found next to the remains.
Acting Beaufort OCPD Assit Supt Weddrin Mojingkin, in confirming the discovery, said two men found the skull and skeleton at 8am while cleaning the area.
According to the report, the place had been vacant five years ago, and the skeleton was found to be fully clothed.
Based on the condition of the skeletal remains, the time of death is presumed to be a long time ago, he added.
So far, no criminal elements have been identified on the scene, and a sudden death paper report has been opened based on the investigation on location, but the case will be further probed by the Membakut police station.
He urged people with information on the case to contact the Membakut police station chief to assist with the investigations.
The body has been taken to the Beaufort Hospital for autopsy to identify the victim and determine the cause of death, while efforts to locate family members are also being continued, Weddrin added.
