M’sian Barista Wins 1st Place At The Prestigious 2019 World Latte Art Battle, Makes Us Proud!
It’s time to celebrate, because yet another Malaysian has managed to bring pride to the country and leave a mark on the international stage! Irvine Quek Siew Lhek has managed to do it again and bag himself a second victory at another international latte art championship, according to The Star!
This incredible feat was achieved when Irvine joined the 2019 World Latte Art Battle, which was held in Seoul, South Korea. With participants hailing from all parts of the world, Irvine managed to beat stiff competition from South Korea’s very own Kim Young Jin by over 10 points, scoring 73. The competition was held over last weekend, and ended on Monday (11th November 2019).
But of course, he’s no stranger to the taste of victory because Irvine has already won the 2018 World latte Art Championship (WLAC) organised by World Coffee Events in Brazil last year!
“Get the world champion title on the same day, but different year. After 365 days, I’m back to the stage again.”
“It’s was a very tough time for me and it’s full of stress in the period of preparation, glad that I made it and I feel so happy to all of the people who supported me and I’m happy that I didn’t disappoint you all. ” he said on his Instagram.
He also managed to give fans a look at his winning design, which comprised of a bear holding on to a fish in its mouth, which he titles “BEAR N FISH”. Apparently the design had taken over 3 months to develop, before undergoing further refinement to perfect it.
We’d like to wish Irvine a huge congratulations again for being able to put Malaysia on the map again with his achievements, and hope that his passion for coffee and latte art continues to drive him to further successes!
