Julie Bowen Looks Back at Helping ‘Modern Family’ Daughter Sarah Hyland Leave Abusive Relationship

Julie Bowen is looking back at being there for Modern Family co-star Sarah Hyland during a very difficult time in her life.

Back in 2014, Sarah, 33, received a three-year restraining order against then-boyfriend Matt Prokop after he allegedly verbally and physically abused her during their five-year relationship.

The month before the order was granted, Julie, 54, intervened and helped her on-screen daughter end the relationship after which Matt, 33, allegedly threatened to kill Sarah‘s dog and burn down their relationship.

Now nearly a decade later, Julie looked back at helping Sarah during the situation.

“I was a responsible adult that happened to be around at the right time,” Julie recalled of the ordeal on a new episode of The Skinny Confidential Him & Her Podcast.

“I mean, I’m sure another responsible adult would have done the exact same thing,” Julie added. “I just love her.”

Julie went on to say that she still has a super close bond with Sarah and her other on-screen kids Ariel Winter and Nolan Gould, along with her on-screen younger stepbrother Rico Rodriguez, after all these years.

“I look at them all like my kids, I love them,” Julie said, adding that they “absolutely” still text and can call each other “anytime.”

Julie recently reunited with two Modern Family co-stars for a very important event!
