Eighteen houses razed in Kota Belud, no casualties reported
KOTA KINABALU: Firemen from Kota Belud fire station, assisted by teams from the Tuaran station and voluntary firemen, worked together to put out a blaze that razed 18 houses in Kampung Kuala Abai, Kota Belud.
No casualties were reported in the incident that occurred on Tuesday (July 9).
The Fire and Rescue Department received the emergency call at 3.43pm and a team of 10 firemen was dispatched from Kota Belud fire station.
“Also at the scene for assistance were eight firemen from Tuaran fire station and four voluntary firemen from Kulambai and Pangkalan Abai voluntary units.
“The police and Sabah Electricity Sdn Bhd (SESB) personnel were also called to the location.
“The fire destroyed 18 houses and the fire was brought under control at 5.20pm. Efforts to put out the embers are still being carried out,” said a department spokesman.
He said that firemen successfully conducted a “fire break” which prevented fire from spreading to 35 nearby houses.
“No one was hurt in the incident,” he said.
