“We Are Not Traitors, We Joined Forces With UMNO, PAS & Others to Save Malaysia” – Ex-PKR MPs

Former PKR MP Datuk Seri Azmin Ali and 10 other MPs from the party have denied accusations that they are traitors to Pakatan Harapan.

Yesterday, Azmin Ali (PKR deputy president) and Zuraida Kamaruddin (PKR vice president) along with nine other PKR MPs resigned from their positions after PKR announced it would fire them for their role in forming an independent coalition to oust the current reigning government.

Since then, the group have been labelled as traitors to Pakatan Harapan and to Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad.

However, they are now trying to put the blame on those who tried to oust Dr Mahathir and labelled them as the “real traitors” instead, reported The Star.

“We deny the accusations that label us as traitors,” they said in a statement on Monday (24th February) night.

“Instead, those who strive to bring down the prime minister during the middle term are the real traitors because they prioritised their agenda to remove the prime minister instead of focusing on the implementation of government policies in a bid to improve the economy and to protect the well-being of the people.”

This statement was released after the group of 11 gathered for a meeting at a five-star hotel.

They also said in the statement that there were those from the Pakatan Harapan who tried to remove Dr Mahathir out of office by forcing him to give an exact date to hand over the government to PKR president Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim during the Pakatan presidential meeting on Friday (21st February).

“The campaign, which began since a few months back, became more aggressive in order to shift the public’s attention from the efforts of improving the economy and institutional reforms,” they said.

“We are confident that the attempts to force the prime minister to give an exact date on the transition plan is an evil plan to make Dr Mahathir a ‘lame duck prime minister’.”

The group then claimed that attempts to change the prime minister in the middle of the term will give the people and investors a bad impression.

“Therefore, we have taken a proactive action to stop the conspiracy to remove the prime minister in the middle of the term,” they said.
