Shots fired as car rams patrol vehicle in Johor Baru

JOHOR BARU: Police fired several shots when a car rammed into their patrol vehicle while conducting routine checks at a housing area here.

Seri Alam OCPD Supt Mohd Sohaimi Ishak said the incident occurred in Taman Kota Masai, Pasir Gudang when a team of policemen flagged a motorcycle for inspection at about 12.20pm on Thursday (July 18).

“While the inspection was happening, a car approached the police vehicle and crashed into it.

“The suspects’ car almost hit the policemen who were on duty. In self-defence, the policemen fired several shots at the vehicle,” he said in a press statement on Friday (July 19).

Supt Mohd Sohaimi said the police arrested the three suspects in the car, and all of them had prior criminal and drug records.

The three suspects, aged 24 to 45, also tested positive for methamphetamine and had been placed under police remand.

Suspect Mohd Shakirin Mohd Samsudin, 25, who is still at large.

“We are searching for a 25-year-old suspect, Mohd Shakirin Mohd Samsudin, who is still at large to aid in investigations,” added Supt Mohd Sohaimi.

The case was investigated under Section 307 of the Penal Code for attempted murder, Section 186 of the same law for obstructing a civil servant from performing his duties and Section 15(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 for using dangerous drugs.
