Flash floods in Klang and Shah Alam, Bomba is monitoring the situation

PETALING JAYA: Several videos of flash floods in Klang and Shah Alam, Selangor, have been circulating on social media.

A video shared by Khidmat Malaysia on Facebook showed teachers at SK Padang Jawa in Klang helping their pupils wade through the water caused by continuous rains.

“The teachers are trying their best to get the affected pupils to safety. It all went well,” it wrote in a post.

Checks on the Klang community page on Facebook also showed several other areas were flooded, including Meru.

Selangor Fire and Rescue Department director Wan Md Razali Wan Ismail said there were no flood operations in Klang and Shah Alam on Tuesday afternoon (Aug 20) despite heavy downpours and reports of flooding in several areas.

However, he added that the department was monitoring the situation closely.

“So far, there is no call for flood operations. There is only monitoring being done at the moment,” he said when contacted.

The department’s Facebook page confirmed that clogged drains caused the flash floods, and their officers had cleared the blockages.

Meanwhile, at about 6 pm, the Shah Alam City Council issued a notice warning residents to be aware of any flooding in their area.

“Following the continuous rain, residents in Shah Alam are advised to adhere to the authorities’ instructions if you were asked to relocate to a relief centre,” it said.

Residents who need emergency assistance are advised to contact the Rapid Response Team (Pantas) at 03-5510 5811.

According to the Public Info Banjir’s website, three rivers in Selangor are currently at the danger level.

The rivers are Sungai Bernam in Sabak Bernam, Sungai Kuang in Gombak and Sungai Rasau in Klang.

However, the water levels in Sungai Kuang and Sungai Rasau are currently receding, and no rain is recorded in these areas.
