Mahkota polls: Voters queue up for free Taiwan popcorn chicken

KLUANG: Mahkota voters have been queuing up at a restaurant in Jalan Dato Teoh Siew Khor, here to redeem free sets of Taiwan popcorn chicken by showing their inked finger.

Restaurant owner Wong Shan Ting said those who cast their ballot can enjoy the dish for free, as a way of encouraging people to vote.

“I offered 50 free sets and they were all snapped up within an hour.

“The items were made to order so some customers had to wait up to two hours to receive them,” she said, adding that the dish is priced at RM10 each.

“I did not expect the response to be this good but I am glad to see the voters’ enthusiasm,” said Wong, 37.

A total of 61,397 voters will cast their ballots in the Mahkota state by-election on Saturday (Sept 28)

Some 109 polling stations have been made available at 20 centres.

The by-election is a straight fight between Syed Hussien Syed Abdullah, 40, of Barisan Nasional (BN) and Mohamad Haizan Jaafar, 61, of Perikatan Nasional (PN).
