Cops nab man who beat dog to death in Keningau
KOTA KINABALU: A man who beat a dog to death in the Keningau district has been arrested.
It is learnt that the suspect had killed the dog to cook and eat it the same day.
Keningau OCPD Supt Yampil Garai said the suspect, a 39-year-old Indonesian mechanic, will be remanded for three days from Nov 7 to 9.
He said following a report on the incident, which was recorded in a video, policemen had identified the suspect and had gone to arrest him at a house in Kg Bariawa Laut, Keningau.
He said the suspect is being probed under Section 428 of the Penal Code for mischief by killing or maiming any animals, while police are also investigating this case under the Communications and Multimedia Act.
Supt Yampil said they were still searching for several other witnesses to facilitate investigations into this case.
He advised the public to refrain from making speculations and spreading unverified information.
Meanwhile in Semporna, it is understood that local authorities including the Veterinary Department and Semporna district office officials are conducting a trapping operation for stray dogs following the death of a toddler.
The child, who was two years and seven months old, had died after a pack of dogs was believed to have attacked him in Kg Sungai Tohok on Sunday (Nov 3).
Semporna OCPD Supt Mohd Sabri Zainol said the follow-up actions on the animals will be handled by the Veterinary Department and Semporna district office.
