Tawau road rage turns violent
KOTA KINABALU: What started as a minor traffic accident turned ugly when a man was assaulted on the roadside in Tawau, leading to an arrest two days later.
The incident occurred along Batu 3 Road on Tuesday (April 1), when a car collided with the suspect’s vehicle, prompting both drivers to stop.
Acting Tawau OCPD Supt Champin Piuh said the victim was checking for damage when he was suddenly punched three times by the suspect’s companion.
“For his own safety, the victim lodged a police report at the nearest station,” he said.
A team from the Tawau Criminal Investigation Department arrested the 27-year-old suspect on Wednesday (April 2) and seized a vehicle believed to be involved in the incident.
Police are investigating the case under Section 427 and Section 323 of the Penal Code for causing mischief and voluntarily causing hurt.
Background checks revealed the suspect has two prior convictions under Section 15(1)(a) and Section 12(2) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.
