Hongkong Actor Raymond Cho Urges Everyone To “Show Mercy” After Losing 3 Endorsement Deals For Showing HK Police Support

Here’s why many Hongkong stars refrain from expressing their views on the ongoing protests in Hongkong.

TVB actor Raymond Cho incurred the wrath of pro-democracy supporters when someone posted a picture of him with fellow celebs, like Singaporean TVB actress Eileen Yeow, at an event supporting the Hongkong police.

The picture, which was uploaded on Facebook, quickly went viral and it didn’t take long for the protesters to declare that they would not be supporting these celebs and the brands they endorse.

Following that, it was reported that Raymond was dropped as the spokesperson for three brands, including luxury tuxedo label MODE by Eddie Tam and jeweller MaBelle. Both brands have released statements dissociating themselves from the 55-year-old actor.

“Mr Raymond Cho has never been a spokesperson for our company, and any remarks made by Mr Cho do not represent our company’s view. We have also decided to stop any related sponsorships. Sorry for the inconvenience caused. Hope you understand.” read MODE’s statement.

MaBelle voiced the same sentiments as MODE but they also emphasised that Raymond’s appearance at their event was just a one-off thing”.

Raymond has since responded to the reports via a statement: All the brands that have worked with me, be it once or a few times, have treated me very well. But nothing lasts forever. Contracts will come to an end, and doing business is difficult. I hope everyone can show each other mercy and support. The clients from the brands are very good. Thank you to all those who love and support me.”
