Malaysia gears up for 19th Asean Ministerial Meeting on Transnational Crime

MELAKA: Preparations for the 19th Asean Ministerial Meeting on Transnational Crime (AMMTC) are well underway, with Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim set to inaugurate the five-day event on Tuesday (Sept 9), according to a statement from the Home Ministry.

The meeting was scheduled to take place from Sept 8 to 12 and will gather Asean ministers and senior officials responsible for security and cross-border crime. Delegates from Timor-Leste, dialogue partners, and the Asean Secretariat are also expected to attend.

In a statement released on Monday (Sept 8), it was noted that all arrangements at the official venue for the opening ceremony, plenary sessions, bilateral meetings, as well as delegation rooms and the media centre in Taman Melaka Raya were in place. The Gala Dinner would be hosted at Encore Melaka.

The main ministerial discussions would take place on Wednesday (Sept 10), with delegates engaging in dialogue covering 24 agenda items related to transnational crime. There would also be bilateral meetings throughout the day.

On Thursday (Sept 11), the focus would shift to consultations with dialogue partners, namely China and Japan. The program would also include the handover of the AMMTC chairmanship from Malaysia to the Philippines.

The 19th AMMTC and its related meetings were held under Malaysia’s Asean Chairmanship 2025, with the theme “Inclusivity and Sustainability.”
