Malaysia condemns Israeli attack on humanitarian flotilla, says Fahmi

PUTRAJAYA: The Cabinet has condemned the Israeli airstrikes on Global Sumud Flotilla in Tunisia and called it “cowardly”.

“This attack is unacceptable and is an attempt to derail the negotiations to end the genocide in Palestine. Malaysia also condemns the attack on the humanitarian mission on Global Sumud Flotilla bound for the Gaza Strip in the early hours of Wednesday (Sept 10) morning.

“The two attacks within 24 hours is inhumane and violates the international laws, threatening the humanitarian mission activists,” said government spokesman and Communications Minister Datuk Fahmi Fadzil at a post-Cabinet briefing on Wednesday.

He added that no Malaysians were harmed in the attack.

The Global Sumud Flotilla humanitarian mission involves more than 1,000 activists from 44 countries including Malaysia, risking their lives by crossing the Mediterranean Sea in an effort to break the Israeli blockade on Gaza.

The Gaza-bound Global Sumud Flotilla stated earlier that a drone had struck its main ship in the Tunisian port of Sidi Bou Said, causing a fire, but that all its passengers and crew were safe.

A spokesman for the Global Sumud Flotilla blamed Israel for the incident, which occurred late on Monday, but the Tunisian National Guard said reports of a drone attack were “completely unfounded”.
