MetMalaysia issues thunderstorm warning for several states until 3pm
PETALING JAYA: The Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia) has issued a thunderstorm warning for several states and territories, with warnings in effect until 3pm on Thursday (Sept 11).
In Perlis, residents are on alert for severe weather, while in Kedah, areas such as Langkawi, Kubang Pasu and Kota Setar are expected to experience thunderstorms, heavy rain and strong winds.
In Perak, Kinta, Kampar, Batang Padang and Muallim are forecast to be affected by adverse weather conditions while the Terengganu districts of Kuala Nerus, Kuala Terengganu and Kemaman are under the warning.
For Pahang, areas including Cameron Highlands, Raub, Bentong and Temerloh are expected to face severe weather.
In Selangor, several districts—Hulu Selangor, Klang, Gombak, Petaling, Kuala Langat, Hulu Langat and Sepang—are on alert, as are the Federal Territories of Kuala Lumpur and Putrajaya.
Negeri Sembilan and Melaka are also included in the alert.
In Johor, regions such as Tangkak, Muar, Batu Pahat, Kluang, Pontian, Kulai, Kota Tinggi and Johor Bahru are expected to face thunderstorms and heavy rain.
Meanwhile, in Sarawak, the warning covers Kuching, Serian, Samarahan, Betong, Sarikei (Sarikei and Meradong), Sibu (Sibu) and Mukah (Tanjung Manis, Daro, Matu and Dalat).
MetMalaysia issues these warnings when thunderstorms with rainfall intensity exceeding 20mm per hour are imminent or expected to last more than an hour.
These are short-term warnings, valid for no more than six hours from issuance.
