M’sian Woman Blackmailed for RM17k After Sending Nudes in Loan Application
Last Monday, a 29-year-old Kuantan engineer lodged a report against a loan company for blackmail, causing her to lose a total of RM17,985 within the span of 5 days.
According to The Star, the woman first discovered the syndicates’ loan advertisement on Facebook in December last year. She then applied for her first loan, sending her personal details like a copy of her identity card, salary statement, bank account statement, utility bill and a nude picture of herself to the suspects for the purpose of getting a loan.
On Christmas Day, she received a message from the syndicate agreeing to lend her RM5k. Not long after that, the syndicate sent another message, demanding that she wire them the payment or they would leak her nudes.
She then transferred RM17,985 through 13 different transactions involving different banks within 5 days. Despite the large amount of money already paid, the syndicate demanded an additional RM15,000.
She then thought, enough is enough, and filed a report against the syndicate at the Kuantan district police headquarters.
As for us all, let’s be cautious to with whom we’re sharing our personal information and images. The world is not often a safe place.
