M’sian Caught Travelling From KL to Malacca In The Middle of The Night Without Approval From PDRM

A 25-year-old Malaysian man was fined RM1,000 for driving from Kuala Lumpur to his home in Taman Bachang Baru, Malacca in the early hours of the morning without the approval of the police during the movement control order.

According to China Press, the man pleaded guilty and was fined RM1,000 when he was charged in Alor Gajah court on 1 April. The judge said that if he was unable to pay the fine, he would have to go to jail for one month instead.

On 28 March, the man encountered a roadblock at Alor Gajah at 2.30am when he attempted to drive from Kuala Lumpur to Malacca without obtaining permission from the police.

This is a violation of the Prevention and Control of Infectious Diseases Regulations 2020. Under this provision, an offender can be sentenced up to six months in prison, fined RM1,000 or both.

The prosecutor of this case suggested in court that the judge should severely punish the man as a warning to the public to comply to the movement control order.

The man, however, said that he works in Kuala Lumpur and lives in a rented house and was returning to his home in Malacca because he had no more money. He added that he had elderly parents.

He also pointed out that he already knew what he was going against the law and urged the court not to sentence him to jail, adding that he was willing to pay the fine.
