PM Muhyiddin Expected To Address The Public Today After MOH Daily Briefing
The long awaited day has finally arrived.
Yesterday (9th April) during MOH’s daily update about the Covid-19 status of our country, Health Director General, Dr Noor Hisham said that, “the Prime Minister will announce what needs to be done to control Covid-19 in the country,” while addressing the media.
The Health DG added that he and ministry officials will meet with Muhyiddin this morning (10th April) to present their proposals, as reported by the Star.
Dr Noor Hisham said “At 6pm today (Thursday, April 9), I will be having a meeting and we will be looking at the existing data of Covid-19 cases, and we will see if the MCO should be extended.” Prior to this, it was announced that a decision will be made by 10th April to decide as to whether the existing MCO will be extended past 14th April.
As of 12pm yesterday, the total amount of Covid-19 cases recorded by Malaysia remains at 4,228 cases and 67 deaths.
“Aside from the data that we (the Ministry of Health) have, we also have many related agencies involved in the discussion such as the Malaysian Institute of Economic Research (MIER) and some architects,” added the Health DG. Among the data that will be reviewed is the Covid-19 projections and trajectories in Malaysia for a period of about a week.
“By observing this data, we can predict as to whether the number of cases will increase of vice versa. But given our performance to date, the numbers seem to be lower. We only have 109 new positive cases.”
Previously, a study published by JPMorgan revealed predictions that Covid-19 cases in Malaysia would peak by mid-April. Nonetheless, Dr Noor Hisham said MOH is now using a new method to follow-up and determine a more accurate classification of Covid-19 infected areas.
While PM Muhyiddin is expected to address the public today after the MOH briefing, Dr Noor Hisham responded with, “You will have to ask the PM”, when asked for the exact time that the Prime Minister’s announcement will take place.
Stay safe, and stay tuned for more updates.
