Deputy Minister Who Celebrated B’day Party Says It Wasn’t Planned, Nobody Meant To Break MCO
Hot on the heels of Health Minister Dr Adham Baba’s blunder, claiming that he had spoken to over 500 countries during a video conference, another Malaysian politician now battles with yet another fiasco after Deputy Rural Development Minister Datuk Abdul Rahman Mohamad was allegedly caught celebrating a birthday party and breaking MCO rules.
Well, in a report from The Star, the minister has since come forward to clarify that the birthday event was not planned ahead, and that there had been no intention at all from the beginning to break any MCO rules.
“It was all unplanned and I didn’t want to chase them away, ” he told the English daily.
This comes after photos surfaced over social media, showing the Minister participating in what appears to be a birthday celebration, complete with a cake. He has since stepped forward to add that the men seen in the photos were at his home to send him off before he left for Putrajaya for a meeting.
The photos he explained, were taken on 13th April 2020 and the gathering was only a brief one that involved the cutting of the cake as well as a short prayer for his safety.
“I was leaving at around 9am when I saw them arriving with a cake. They told me that they wanted to wish me well on my journey to Putrajaya, and that they wanted to give me the cake as it was coincidentally my birthday that day, ” he said, adding that turning them away would have been rude.
As for not wearing a face mask, the Minister had said that there was no advisory from the Health Ministry which stated that healthy individuals had to wear face masks.
