Singapore records an additional 1,426 Covid-19 cases today (20 April) bringing the total number of cases in the country to 8,014.

According to CNA, most of the new cases are work permit holders staying in foreign worker dormitories. Among the new cases, 16 are Singaporeans or permanent residents.

“We are still working through the details of the cases, and further updates will be shared via the MOH press release that will be issued tonight,” said the country’s Ministry of Health.

18 foreign worker dormitories have been gazetted as isolation areas as numbers continue to rise.

As of Sunday (19 April), the S11 Dormitory @ Punggol cluster remains the biggest with 1,508 cases. The second biggest cluster is at Sungei Tengah Lodge with 521 cases.

The Ministry of Manpower (MOM) and the Building and Construction Authority (BCA) noted that while the recent rise in number of foreign workers infected with the coronavirus has mostly been concentrated in dormitories, there have been cases at construction worksites.

Singapore is now the country with the highest amount of cases in Southeast Asia. They have 768 recoveries and 11 deaths at the time of writing.
