Kate Tsui Makes Appearance in Taiwanese Film, “Achoo”
After its delayed release by six years, Taiwanese film Achoo <打噴嚏> will finally open on July 15, 2020. Originally scheduled for release in 2014, the film was pushed back because of lead star Kai Ko‘s (柯震東) drug scandal. The long wait held a surprise for viewers, as now-retired actress Kate Tsui (徐子珊), makes an appearance in the movie as Kai Ko’s manager.
On July 5, Achoo premiered at the Taipei Film Festival, which was attended by its cast, director Kevin Ko (柯孟融), and original author and screenplay writer Giddens Ko (柯景騰). Thrilled to see his story appear on the big screen, Giddens cried half way through the premiere. He said, “I want to thank Kai’s father, as well as producer Angie Chai (柴智屏) for making this all happen.”
Kai is equally happy to see Achoo finally arrive in movie theaters. Thanking the 600 fans who attended the event to show their support, Kai expressed, “These past few years have been very tiring, but I’ll continue to try my best and become more courageous.” Erupting in applause, the audience was glad to see Kai back in the limelight after the multiple delays Achoo faced. The movie could not be shown in China after Kai was arrested for drug use in 2014, and also received further setbacks due to COVID-19 this year.
Kai’s Impression on Ariel Lin and Kate Tsui
Achoo centers around the maturing love story between two childhood friends, portrayed by Kai Ko and Ariel Lin (林依晨). Filming with Ariel surprised Kai, who initially thought the actress has a quiet personality, but it turned out she was very energetic on the set.
Also appearing in the movie as Kai’s manager is Kate Tsui, who retired from the entertainment industry last year in lieu of furthering her studies in psychology. Due to her feisty character and incredible fight moves in Achoo, Kate was nicknamed “Unbeatable Kate” by netizens. Kai admitted that he thought Kate had a lot of character and strong stage presence when they were filming together.
