Christy Carlson Romano Admits She Was Once Jealous of Shia LaBeouf’s Success

Christy Carlson Romano is getting real.

In a new YouTube video, the 37-year-old actress admitted that she was a little “salty” over her Even Stevens co-star Shia LaBeouf‘s success.

In the video titled “Why I Don’t Talk To Shia LaBeouf,” Christy said that she and the 35-year-old actor had a “sibling rivalry” and “weren’t really close” on set of their Disney Channel show.

“We had a little bit of animosity,” she shared. “I always wanted him to really appreciate what I gave to him.”

She then recalled when Shia snubbed her when he won the Daytime Emmy Award for Outstanding Performer in a Children’s Series over 20 years ago.

“He was on the podium. I was sitting there with the rest of our team, and he thanked like everybody at the table. But he didn’t thank me,” Christy said. “I was hurt at the time, because I felt like since day one, it was him and me. It was, like, our show. But because it was so life or death or him, it was his show and I was just like around because I was a girl.”

Once Even Stevens ended in 2005, Christy admitted that she became a “bit salty” when she saw Shia turning into a “huge star.”

“For a while, I think the ghost of who Shia was and who he became was really frustrating for me,” Christy shared. “I didn’t watch any of his movies. I couldn’t. I couldn’t bring myself to watch them…I was a bit salty.”

Christy then said that Shia had gotten lucky by landing a better agent and better manager than she did.

“I kind of felt a little jilted by the whole situation,” she continued. “Here he is, making a big old splash in Hollywood. And here I am. I chose to go to college. And there’s consequences that come [with] that but, like, there was definitely an undercurrent of regret, but also an undercurrent of comparison. Sibling rivalry, if you will.”

Years later, Christy said that her feelings of jealousy have “really mellowed out,” adding that she and Shia “just went [down] completely different pathways of life.”

Even though they haven’t talked in years, Christy believes that she and Shia are still “bonded.”

“I guarantee if I saw him walking on the street, there would be a bond there that is undeniable,” Christy explained. “When you grow up with somebody in that particular way… you’re bonded together. You can’t help but want to see the person succeed.”
